In 1996 Ashley Jackson was awarded the Yorkshire Arts and Entertainment Personality of the Year for his commitment, promotion and encouragement of the arts. His paintings of brooding moorlands have been exhibited worldwide and have been described as being synonymous with Yorkshire. Since opening his first gallery back in 1963, he has become one of the country's most successful landscape watercolourists and in 1967 he was elected a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
