Paul Smith left school at 15, and was introduced to fashion aged 16 through a job at a local clothing warehouse in Nottingham. In 1970 he opened his first shop, Paul Smith Vêtement Pour Homme, in Nottingham and began taking evening classes for tailoring. He is now established as one of the most eminent British designers, with 12 collections sold in shop locations worldwide.
