Photography and Images FAQs
Photography and video filming are not normally allowed at Tate.
Permission may be granted for the purpose of private study and research, if
no reproduction is available and copyright law permits. Application forms
are available from the Filming Office +44 (0)20 7887 8867 or by
email from: christopher.webster@tate.org.uk
Please note that forms take about a week to be processed.
Completing the Application Form
Please explain why you want to take photographs, providing evidence of your research
if possible. If permission is given, the following conditions will apply:
- Flash, tripod and video cameras may not be used.
- Copyright of the photograph is assigned to Tate.
- The photograph may not be given or lent to a third party.
- The photograph may only be used for private study.
- No commercial use may ever be made of the photograph.
- The photograph may not be reproduced without application to Tate Picture Library.
- The photography pass must be returned to the Information Desk.
Return your completed application form to the Filming Office, Tate, Millbank, London SW1P 4RG. If permission is granted, your form will be sent back to you with confirmation.
When you arrive at the gallery, please go to the Information Desk with your form. If you are a student, please bring identification. Staff at the Information Desk will issue you with a pass that must be worn at all times.

If you want to reproduce an image, please go to Tate Images. This service is provided for professionals using Tate images for commercial purposes who want to reproduce a Tate work in any format.
