Look Group members viewing a display, Tate St Ives

Each Look Group has its own way of working and organising discussions. Some focus on a particular artist and others may discuss a particular idea or theme. Often, group members take it in turns to decide on a topic and to chair each meeting.

Everyone can contribute

The groups usually plan a topic for discussion, and members usually do some preparation to contribute to the discussion. It doesn’t matter if sometimes, members don’t have time to do this, they can still contribute to the discussion.

The groups explore the ways they might want to structure meetings and use relevant visual resources as reference at the meetings. Most meetings take place in community venues, and include visits to the Tate St Ives or other exhibitions as a focus for conversation.

All members can contribute to the groups’ development and activity. Some groups have one or two people who are responsible for co-ordinating meetings and being the main contact with the Assistant Learning Curator for Look Groups, and other groups may share this role between all members.

There is also an annual Look Groups social event for members hosted at Tate St Ives. Look Groups from all over Cornwall come to Tate St Ives to see exhibitions, enjoy gallery talks, activities, and conversations about art.
