The Unilever Series: turbinegeneration was a project about international collaboration and exchange, linking schools, galleries, artists and cultural institutions worldwide through contemporary art and ideas.

The Unilever Series: turbinegeneration was a programme bringing together schools, galleries and artists from across the world. The turbinegeneration website provided space for engagement with the global turbinegeneration community.

International schools and colleges registered on the site to collaborate with an international partner to explore their cultures and exchange their artwork online, creating a partnership blog where they share, compare and develop artwork together.

This was supported by a free downloadable project pack, with a range of starting points to initiate an ongoing dialogue between schools. Each year, the turbinegeneration project pack was based on ideas and themes represented in The Unilever Series installation.

The project pack was informed by research with teachers and developed by practising artists and Tate Learning. Activities could be easily adapted for different ages and abilities and all could  be integrated to meet learning objectives across the curriculum. All past resources are still available for use in the resource section.

Schools and artists submitted work to be considered for an online gallery which was open to the public.

The Unilever Series: turbinegeneration was a valuable platform for galleries and artists to promote themselves and direct others to their work. By registering, galleries could promote their programmes, follow schools, artists and galleries, signpost visitors to their spaces and make international connections.

Each year the number of countries participating in turbinegeneration increased. Overall the project engaged schools, artists, educators and art organisations from over 50 countries.

After five fantastic years, turbinegeneration has now ended on a successful note.
