Spheres of Influence

SPHERES OF INFLUENCE is the umbrella title for a body of work comprising five ‘statements’ which have the potential to be realised in a number of different ways, including being inscribed as a written text on the gallery wall, spoken as dialogue on a video, printed in a book or poster, sung, or even tattooed onto the skin. In 2005 Lawrence Weiner reconfigured the work especially for Tate Modern using vinyl lettering and posters. The statements refer obliquely to the physical phenomenon of ground water and the metaphorical implications of actions having consequences that may be invisible to the naked eye.
