This remarkable collection fully documents the life and work of Professor Hodin, an émigré art critic and art historian who retained his European connections throughout his life. The extensive files of manuscripts and typescripts illustrate the significant contribution made to aesthetics and art history in this country and beyond. Correspondence relates to all his writing activities and includes files devoted to the British Council, the British Society of Aesthetics, the IAAC, the Institute of Contemporary Arts, PEN, the Roland Collection, and Tate. There are also numerous letters to and from international artists such as Oskar Kokoschka and Sidney Nolan as well as correspondence from Barbara Hepworth and Ben Nicholson and others based in St. Ives. Additionally there are significant runs of Hodin's diaries and journals, as well as his own and others' publications, printed ephemera, photographs, and press cuttings.
