George Brecht

A rare notebook by this influential artist and theorist, and one of the founder members of the Fluxus collective, 1968–69.  The notebook dates from the time of Brecht’s employment as a lecturer at Leeds School of Art.

Henri Matisse
1869–1954
Three letters from Henri Matisse to St John Hutchinson, one draft letter from Hutchinson to Matisse, and a letter from Georges Duthuit to Matisse in relation to the Hutchinson’s purchase of N04924 Liseuse à L’Ombrelle in 1926, which was facilitated by Duthuit, and given to Tate by the Contemporary Art Society in 1938.

Colin Moss

Material relating to the Hornsey College of Art sit-in, 1968, including papers, comprising memos, correspondence and circulars from the protest; papers relating to Page’s teaching as these related to the circumstances of the protest; and documentation of the wider context both of protests at other colleges across the country, and educational reforms and discussions of the time.  There is also a small amount of published material and some posters produced during the protest.

Maresco Pearce

Five volumes of manuscript memoir, 1905–1914, written retrospectively in the 1950s, which give a fascinating account of Pearce’s life in London and his friendships and encounters with a range of artists and social figures, including Augustus John, and artists associated with the Bloomsbury and the Camden Town groups.
