Gareth Thomas trained in law, and then began a 30-year commercial career with the John Lewis Partnership. Gareth’s time at John Lewis culminated in him serving as Retail Director with responsibility for property, design, operations, sales and profit at John Lewis shops, which shared a turnover of £3bn annually. Its longest-serving board member, he helped it to win every major industry award for retailing and customer service. Gareth retired from the Partnership in April 2010.
Between 2006 and 2014 he was a Trustee and Deputy Chairman of Save The Children UK, and is currently a Trustee of the American Museum in Britain, a Non-Executive Director of Share Group plc, an Independent Director for Shoppers Stop, India, and Chairman of Countrywide Farmers plc. He has a passion for British and Irish art from the late 20th century.
