Alex Beard

Alex was appointed Deputy Director at Tate in 2002. He is responsible for Tate’s business activities, overseeing Tate’s income generating, resource management and audience development functions. He has particular responsibility for the delivery of Tate’s capital programme and for government relations, in addition to deputising for the Director across Tate.

Alex has worked at Tate since 1994, starting as Finance Director, moving into more general resource management and business development progressively over eight years. He was previously at the Arts Council for seven years, latterly as Head of Business Assessment, responsible for assessing organisations in receipt of long term Arts Council funding.

Areas of particular expertise/interest are change management, business development, strategy formulation and execution.

Alex is a Trustee of Glyndebourne Productions Limited and Global Giving UK.  Alex is also a member of the Conseil d’Orientation Strategique of the Grand Palais and Reunion Musées Nationaux, as well as the DCMS Philanthropy Programme Management Board.
