Not inscribed
Chalk on paper, 24 × 18 3/4 (61 × 47.8)
Presented in memory of David Bomberg by Mr and Mrs J. Newmark through the CAS 1981
Prov: Mrs Lilian Bomberg
The artist's younger sister Raie was born in 1897 and died in about 1921. It is not possible to date this drawing precisely, although it is clearly later than the self-portrait dated 1909 (William Lipke, David Bomberg, 1967, pl.2). Mrs J. Newmark, a younger sister of the subject, is certain that it was drawn while Bomberg was still living in the family home in St Mark's Street, Whitechapel, which he left in late 1912 or early 1913.
