A wide, lonely stretch of sand gently washed by the tide under a grey sky; in the foreground are some scattered groups of pebbles exposed by the receding sea over which hover a few seagulls. The artist was living at Marle View, West Conway, North Wales, when this picture was painted, which suggests that it may be a view on the nearby Carnarvonshire coast.
