Technique and condition
Sound stretcher, commercially primed canvas, stretched by artist prior to painting. Heavily diluted oil paint sketch beneath visible layers. Somewhat complicated stratigraphy to paint film due to modifications in composition. Visible composition has been executed prior to underlying layer drying. Paints have been mixed on paint surface along with being mixed on the palette and the paint has been worked wet in wet on the canvas. Prominent brushmarks. Image has been executed quickly but the presence of palette scrapings suggests that paint was congealing on the palette.
The painting has been skillfully executed and technique does not jeopardize the longevity of the work.
