Richard Dadd, A Turk 1863
Display caption
This study would have been based on the sketchbooks Dadd made on his travels through the Middle East and which he took with him to Bethlem. Details such as the red fez which shows through the man’s turban and the grill by his side for cooking would have derived from such sketches as well as from memory.
