This print is an illustration from Daniell’s monumental Voyage around Great Britain (1814–25). The accompanying text described the novelty and efficiency of the new steam-boat shown here, which connected Glasgow and Dumbarton. But whereas Turner took such novel subject matter as an opportunity to explore elemental forces and comment on broad themes, for Daniell in this context it was something to be illustrated as clearly as possible.
