Technique and condition
A screenprint in white ink printed on black somerset velvet paper made in 1998. The print relates to a performance piece made by Deller called Acid Brass 1996 where he brought together acid house anthems played by a coal pit brass band. He then sought to make connections between acid house music and the world of miners and their brass bands, mapping the links in a drawing made in 1996. This drawing formed the basis for the screenprint. Printed in an edition of one hundred this print is number forty six. Screenprints (often called silkscreens or Serigraph) are made by Ink being forced through a stretched mesh fabric (traditionally silk but more commonly synthetic), parts of which have been blocked out to form the image. It differs from other printing techniques in that the image is passed through the surface rather than being transferred from the surface. The image covers the whole paper support. On acquisition the print is in good condition.
