T01839 Painting 1962
Inscribed ‘Denny‘62’b.r.
Oil and gouache on card, 21 x 13½ (53.5 x 34.5).
Presented by the artist 1973.
T01839 is an early example of the artist’s first return to asymmetry. Both gouaches and paintings of 1963–64 develop the idea of a meandering line, but are dependent upon an overlying, or at least integrated structure of either a cruciform or ‘columnar’ nature.
