Chantrey Purchase from the artist 1919.

The sitter was a model. Originally the whole head was modelled and cast in plaster, probably in 1914 or just after the war in 1918. A fragment was cast as a mask in 1919. One other cast exists, formerly in the possession of the artist. (Information from Lady Dick, 6 February 1960.)
