Hubert Wellington (op. cit.) says that all the drawings exhibited at the Godfrey Phillips Gallery in 1928 were done in July and August of that year and describes them as ‘Studies of life rather than studies of form and detail from life’. The models were all Indian women and Negresses. (See also N04425.)
