Ferneley's Account Books (published by Paget, 1931) record the payment in June 1820 of £7.7.0 by ‘Mr Powell’ for ‘Portrait of “Norton” | Mr Powell and Son’. The sitters have not been further identified. The church in the background appears to be the parish church of Melton Mowbray.
