(London 1974), p.20
Dated by Roberta González about 1905-8 and by Josette Gibert c.1906-14, but close in style to two drawings inscribed 1909, which are reproduced in Gibert, op. cit., pp.17 and 95 as 'Woman in a Chemise doing her Hair' and 'Woman washing her Face'.
González made a number of drawings of women at their toilet from about 1904 onwards, sometimes using one or other of his sisters as model, and some of the same themes appear later in his welded sculptures, such as 'Woman combing her Hair' and 'Woman with a Mirror'.
[All the drawings by Julio González given to the Tate are authenticated on the back by his daughter Roberta González and inscribed with a title and date, or approximate date. The titles are used in the catalogue entries, but the dating has been made more precise wherever possible. (Julio González 's drawings are usually dated from about 1934 onwards, but the great majority of the early drawings are undated).]
