The pond is near the artist's house in Sussex and figures in many of his pictures. A later painting of almost the same view is reproduced in W. G. Constable, Duncan Grant, 1927, pl.14, as ‘The Pond, 1926, Private Collection’, and was probably exhibited at the Leicester Galleries, May– June 1926 (23). Another picture of the same pond shows a woman sitting in the foreground beside a boat, repr. Burlington Magazine, LXII, May–June 1933, p.19, advert.
