Hermann Goring was widely associated with the Reichstag fire and the ensuing trial. Heartfield painted flames onto the image, making it explicitly demonic. This issue of AIZ was published as the trial reached its conclusion. A Dutchman, Marinus van der Lubbe, was condemned and executed.
