The Czech government censored this issue of VI, which appeared on the day that Germany annexed the Sudetenland. Hitler’s gaping mouth was overprinted in black but remains visible. The lie was that this was his last territorial claim, and this was already exposed by the de facto dismemberment of Czechoslovakia. The Czech government refused demands to extradite Heartfield to Germany, and he made his way to London by the end of the year.
