An early work by this little-known Lincolnshire artist, who worked all his life in Gainsborough. The title is taken from a label removed from the back of the picture: ‘A Wayside Gossip W. E. Millner Gainsborough Lincolnshire March 31/1873’. Millner presumably sent the painting for exhibition in 1873, but no further details of this have been discovered.
