T02328 LANDSCAPE WITH A RIVER c.1900–14
Not inscribed
Oil on canvas, 26 3/4 × 36 3/8 (68 × 92.5)
Presented by Mr and Mrs Barnett Shine 1978
Prov: Atelier O'Conor; Crane Kalman Gallery (purchased at a Paris auction, about 1966); Barnett Shine, 1967
Exh: Crane Kalman Gallery, Summer 1966 (no catalogue)
There are few dated landscapes by O'Conor between 1900 and 1914, but the thin paint and blurred shapes of T02328 may be compared to a Provençal landscape ‘The Balustrade’ which is dated 1913 (repr. in colour in Apollo, XCIII, June 1971, advertisements). The Crane Kalman Gallery sold the painting as ‘Landscape in Brittany’, but the location of the landscape is not known.
