Chantrey Purchase from the artist 1940.

The artist recalled that at the time of carving this relief she was particularly interested in Indian and Eastern sculpture, admiring ‘its wonderful richness and flow of design and form’. The subject was conceived and executed in a style incorporating these qualities.
