The 'Zig' series contains some of Smith's most abstract sculptures. This particular example however, retains figurative overtones in its construction. The use of industrial paint gives the sculpture a flat unified colour. In this period Smith often mounted his work on wheels making it easier to handle and literally mobile, although the wheels in this case are fixed. The sculptures with wheels thus became independent of the traditional plinth or base. Smith did not designate a sixth work in the 'Zig' series although he made more than six 'Zigs'. However, on stylistic grounds, this sculpture is believed to be number six.
