The drawing was made with the page turned horizontally. It is one of a sequence of views of medieval ruins, with the rectos of folios 41–45 and 47–49 (D05118–D05122, D05124–D05126), which have not been satisfactorily identified. Some may relate to the tower of Old Hawarden Castle or to Beeston Castle on its prominent hill; see folios 53 recto and verso, 54 recto and 60 recto (D05131–D05133, D05139).
