Catalogue entry

Inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation, this single-masted boat is indicated in a potentially wider context by the simple expedient of the horizon line which passes through the zigzag hatching of its dark hull. It was perhaps observed off Margate; see the sketchbook’s Introduction.
