Catalogue entry

Turner filled this page with a study of a copse of trees with a large riverside settlement in the distance. Tate curator Ian Warrell located this scene to the area around Caen in Normandy.1 The artist filled several pages of the present volume with studies of this town, a list of which is included in the sketchbook introduction.
