This view of Carlisle from the west, continued slightly on folio 41 (D25841), is similar to the double-page sketch on folios 39 verso–40 (D25838–D25839). Part of a parapet at the left of the page, and a faint outline of a boat in the foreground at the right (also visible on folio 39 verso) show that the sketch was made from across the River Caldew. While the castle and cathedral are drawn in less detail in this sketch, Turner has this time included Eden Bridge at the left.
See folio 39 verso for references to further views of Carlisle.
