Catalogue entry

The castle is drawn from a viewpoint further downstream than that of folio 38 recto (D01279; Turner Bequest XXXVIII 28). Other views of Cilgerran are on the rectos of folios 37, 40 and 41 (D01342, D01354, D01281; Turner Bequest XXXVIII 88, 100, 29).
Finberg listed this subject twice in his 1909 Inventory;1 the superfluous cross-reference entry, Turner Bequest XXXVIII 73, was initially allocated Tate accession number D01327, since cancelled.
1
Finberg 1909, I, p.85, cross-referenced from 87.
Verso:
Blank; Finberg’s use of double quotation marks for the title usually indicates his transcribing an inscription, but nothing is now apparent on the sheet; stamped in brown ink with Turner Bequest monogram.
