Drawn with the sketchbook inverted, and continued on folio 26 (D10378), this is a view looking west from below the cliffs, past the old town along the Stade towards the castle. Superimposed on the cliff-face at right on this leaf are details of buildings including the towers of All Saints and St Clement’s Churches. The view of the Stade might be compared to the background of the watercolour Fish-Market, Hastings (Hastings Museum and Art Gallery)1 dated 1824.
For views of Hastings in this sketchbook see notes to folio 2 verso (D10371).
