Catalogue entry

Inverted in relation to the sketchbook as foliated, this sketch records the south-easterly view from the suburb of Sainte-Adresse looking out towards Le Havre and the Seine estuary. A nearby view is sketched onto folio 41 recto (D23597; Turner Bequest CCLII 41). For examples of the watercolours of Le Havre from Sainte-Adresse that Turner worked up with a view to engraved reproduction around this time, see Tate D24652 (Turner Bequest CCLIX 87) and D24653 (Turner Bequest CCLIX 88).
