Catalogue entry

At least four sketches in this sketchbook show Ligny-en-Barrois, on the river Ornain near Bar-le-Duc; see also folios 14, 15 and 16 (D04749, D04750, D04751). Turner passed through it on his way home across France. This is the most distant, panoramic view while that on folio14 is similar but taken from a point closer to the town.
