Catalogue entry

The subject was drawn with the page turned horizontally. A finished watercolour showing the same subject, Llandilo Bridge and Dinevor Castle (National Museum Wales, Cardiff),1 was exhibited in 1796 and so must have been based on an earlier drawing. Other views of the castle are on the rectos of folios 22, 29, 31 and 33 (D01275, D01272, D01274, D01276; Turner Bequest XXXVIII 24a, 22, 24, 25). Another view of the bridge at Llandeilo, with the town beyond, is in the Dynevor Castle sketchbook (Tate D01548–D01549; Turner Bequest XL 51a–52).
