Display caption

This view of Lulworth Cove is wholly
dominated by the projecting geographical feature of the limestone and rock flint strata
in the foreground. This has been effectively rendered by heavily etched lines over finer engraved and etched work underneath. Added etched work was a characteristic technique
of the Cooke brothers and gives the Southern Coast plates much of their depth and beauty
of form. Here the dark cragginess and swirling lines of the promontory contrasts beautifully with the smooth stillness of the small bay beyond and the encircling white chalk cliffs common to this part of the Dorset coast.
