This faint sketch shows New Abbey and Criffell near Dumfries. However, the abbey and hill are separate sketches as New Abbey (only the tower of which is portrayed) is seen from the north-west (judging by the position of the two gables), so the hill should appear more to the right. A serpentine line below the abbey indicates the river New Abbey Pow. Of all the New Abbey sketches in this book the ones closest to this are on folio 49 (D25857).
See folio 46 (D25851) for other views of New Abbey.
