Catalogue entry

Turner’s shorthand notes ‘Diogen | Adultery | Manna | Rebecca | Death’, written at top left of the leaf, refer to the titles of pictures by Poussin which he noted in more detail elsewhere in this sketchbook. These are: Landscape with Diogenes, for which – and for the Louvre Poussins in general – see folio 25 verso (D04302); The Woman Taken in Adultery, for which see folio 27 Tate (D04305); The Gathering of the Manna, for which see folio 26 verso (D04304); Eleazer and Rebecca at the Well, for which see chiefly folio 72 (D04367); and probably The Plague of Ashdod, for which also see folio 27.
Turner also seems to have drawn two small circles to right of his notes.
