Catalogue entry

Ian Warrell has confirmed Finberg’s suggestion that this sketch, made with the page turned vertically, is a view of Peveril Castle from Castleton,1 looking south from Goosehill, with the gorge leading to Peak Cavern below the castle. The latter is now obscured by trees from this direction. For other views of the castle, village and cave, see under folio 1 verso (D22152).

Ian Warrell, notes from 1993 and later in Tate catalogue files.
Technical notes:
The page has been torn away about half way across its full width. The sketch fills the surviving portion.
