Display caption

This view of Plymouth from Stonehouse Creek, to the west of the town, is one
of the most developed of a group of oil sketches Turner made in Devon in 1813.
It is more finished than usual, and falls into a satisfying composition. While
some of the sketches focus on details
and motifs, this could well have provided material for a subsequent picture.
