Catalogue entry

This series of sketches shows the ruins St Andrew’s Church at Walberswick near Southwold, Suffolk (see Tate D18261; Turner Bequest CCIX 53a). Turner has inscribed notes which appear to read ‘Southwold [?Ruins]’ and ‘Dun Monastery’, the latter probably referring to the ruined All Saints’ Church at Dunwich (see Tate D18237; Turner Bequest CCIX 41a).
The ruins recorded on Tate D18273; Turner Bequest CCIX 60 may also be connected to these sketches.
