Catalogue entry

These two bands of extremely quick and calligraphic sketches may represent ‘figures’, as Finberg thought,1 or possibly sailing boats (compare folio 37 verso; D20788; Turner Bequest CCXXVII 35a).
1
Finberg 1909, II, p.698.
Technical notes:
The legibility of the pencil work is impeded by prolonged rubbing between this paste-down and folio 44 verso opposite (D20802; Turner Bequest CCXXVII 42a).
