These drawings were made on two registers, with the page turned vertically. They show yachts under way, functioning as diagrammatic records of the arrangement of their sails. There are similar studies on 30 verso opposite and the verso of the present leaf (D20644, D20646; Turner Bequest CCXXVI 29a, 30a). They are among many such coastal and nautical studies in this sketchbook, presumably relating to the regatta events at Cowes from late July 1827 onwards, as discussed in the Introduction.
