The drawing on this opening provided the basis for an oil painting Turner exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1827, 'Mortlake Terrace, the Seat of William Moffatt, Esq., Summer's Evening' (National Gallery of Art, Washington). Like the slightly later views of Petworth Park (see Gallery 102), this view is a reversal of the traditional topographical house portrait so that the house itself is not seen, the view from the house becoming the subject.
