Ascending the Chamonix valley beyond the village of Les Houches (see folios 64 and 72 of this sketchbook, D04463, D04480), Turner came to the serracs of the Glacier des Bossons tumbling down beside the track, as seen in this sketch and also in a larger coloured drawing (private collection).1
