Display caption

Engraved by Edward Finden, this design first appeared as the title-vignette to vol.XIII of the 'Life and Works' of Byron. It introduced Byron's verse-drama 'The Deformed Transformed', several scenes of which take place before the walls of Rome - walls which have 'guided in great ages,/ and sent forth mighty spirits'.
