85 Tours: the cathedral from the Place de l'Archev?ch? c.1826-8 (fig.118)
Watercolour and gouache, with pen, on blue paper (type F) 128 x 187 (5 x 7 3/8)
Preliminary sketches: Turner made a pencil sketch of the cathedral facade (see cat.25), but this colour study may have been developed over an on-the-spot sketch, for there is no other record of the gateway to the Bishop's Palace.
