Catalogue entry

The inscribed ‘F’ presumably stands for Farnley, and the trees are presumably on or near Walter Fawkes’s Yorkshire estate; drawings of Farnley Hall begin on folio 74 verso (D09770; see the sketchbook’s Introduction). There is a very slight continuation of the treetops on folio 86 recto opposite (D09787; CXXXIII 83).
